Sound design on a synth is genuinely fun. But before you get there, you have to clear the walls of playing and sequencing.
And here's the tricky part: sound only comes alive once there's a performance to put it in (hitting a single key while you tweak a knob is no fun at all).
So, starting from a device that makes music with no playing and no sequencing, we built an instrument, “ARPJAM Studio,” where you perform through sound design and sonic movement while that performance runs.

Part of your setup.
Now an AUv3 audio unit. Run it alongside your other apps inside AUM and other hosts on iPad, or as a plug-in in Logic Pro, Ableton Live and other AUv3 hosts on the Mac — as an instrument, or as an effect. ARPJAM Studio becomes part of your setup.

Fast tape wobble Flutter, selectable reference Tuning (432 / 440 Hz…), and Key Follow that opens the filter in the low register. Natural, living motion across the timeline.

Undo it. Keep it clean.
Undo steps back through your edits; Motif back returns to the phrase you just had. External input gets automatic feedback muting and mains-hum removal (50 / 60 Hz), and there's now a Mono output.

From a mic — or from your own playing.
Record the external input, or whatever ARP A / ARP B / DRUMS is playing right now. OVERDUB is also available.
SLICES
Cut it up. Choose again.
Density opens up space in the sound, Reverse plays a slice backwards, Double adds character, Pitch Mix lifts it a fifth or an octave. The slots keep marching regardless — so no amount of probability breaks the rhythm.
STRETCH
Leave it as it is, or fit it to the tempo.
OFF reads the material at the speed you recorded it. ON stretches the sample to exactly one bar at the current tempo and follows tempo changes.
EFFECTS
Effects, just like the rest.
Filter, drive and the delay / reverb sends run the same path as every other machine, and LFOs, chord progression and GROOVE all reach it.

Core engines
Four engines run in parallel, each with its own role.
ARP ANine waveforms + three filters + ADSR. Arpeggio in six types: Random Chord / Single / Repeat / Skank / Drone / Pattern.
ARP BFully independent from ARP A. AVOID mode auto-adjusts so the harmonies never clash.
DRUMSKICK / SNARE / HIHAT / NOISE. Probability control weaves drums that don't rely on fixed patterns. Three voices each.
SAMPLESimple, yet endlessly deep. The fourth machine cuts your recording into slices and rebuilds the bar by chance. The same material never returns the same way twice.
Shape the flow
Tools that give the machine's chance a larger flow and a live, performance-like feel.
CHORD PROGRESSIONSet a progression and every engine locks onto those chords, building the flow of a song.

PLAY PAD
Forget playing for now. But you're welcome to remember it later.

You can also layer in your own playing on top of the auto-running performance. The PLAY PAD is a keyboard laid out to follow the current scale. So you can play more intuitively than on an ordinary keyboard.
The key pads now have a pedal.
A wide bar sits between the two pads. It works as a sustain pedal only while you hold it, so notes keep ringing after you lift your fingers. It applies to both ARP A and ARP B.
Now an AUv3 plug-in.
Load it inside a host such as AUM or Logic. It runs with the host's transport, and its controls can be driven from the host's automation.
Sounds
Hit play and the ARPJAM Studio sound engine generates it on the spot. Not a recording — so it sounds a little different every time you listen.
Press ▶ — the sound engine boots in a few seconds and playback begins. Only one plays at a time.
